Happy Hunger Games! Guest Post with Laura Ruby

Hey Inkpotters,

Have you all seen The Hunger Games yet? Laura Ruby was kind enough to Skype with us from Chicago about why this dystopian novel has resonated so much with young adults. She also talks about why she writes for that age group and gives a little advice to aspiring writers. You can watch the video below and weigh in with your take on The Hunger Games and writing for young adults.

  1. Laura is smart and deep, while I, apparently, am shallow because, as she was saying all those smart things, I was deeply coveting her flattering shirt and her built-in bookcases.

  3. It's funny how every group (liberal, conservative, Christian, the "Occupy" crowd, etc.) has offered a different interpretation of Hunger Games. I guess that shows that it speaks on some level to almost everyone.

  4. This provides wonderful insight. I'm glad there is much discussion on the series. Hopefully, more publishers will be recognizing the importance of our work. I, too, wish I was as deep as Laura, lol.
